The Calm Before the Stitch
Welcome to the first part of our Beginner's Guide to Embroidery — we're so happy you're here. Before you make your first stitch, let's slow down and set the scene. Good embroidery starts with a great setup.

🧺 What You’ll Need
- A 6\" bamboo embroidery hoop
- Pre-printed cotton fabric (like the ones in our kits)
- Embroidery thread (floss), a needle, and scissors
- A table or lap tray with good lighting
- A cuppa, if you’re so inclined ☕️

🔁 How to Set Up Your Hoop
Think of this step like tuning an instrument — you want tension without stress. Your fabric should feel smooth and even, like the top of a drum. Here’s how:
- Loosen the screw at the top of your hoop and separate the two rings.
- Place your fabric over the smaller inner ring, centered on the design.
- Gently press the larger outer ring down over the top.
- Tighten the screw just enough to hold the fabric, then pull gently at the edges to make it taut.
Pro Tip: Center your design before tightening. Adjust as needed until it looks just right — embroidery is all about small adjustments!

🎵 Why This Part Matters
Starting with a smooth, stable fabric gives your stitches a solid foundation. It also sets the tone: embroidery is about slowing down, finding your rhythm, and creating something beautiful — one thread at a time.
